Started as FBO in 1946. Purchased Downeast Airlines in 1980 and Valley
Airlines in 1986. Acquired PBA in 1987. In 1987, Texas Air Corp. acquired 50% of shares and
airline became a Continental Express affiliate. In 1985, Bar Harbor Airlines moved it's headquarters to Boston's Logan Airport. In April 1987, Texas Air Corporation purchased 50% of Bar Harbor Airlines, through a transfer of its ownership of PBA to Bar Harbor. Texas Airlines operated the consolidated PBA/Bar Harbor as a commuter carrier for both Continental and Eastern. In 1989 Bar Harbor moved its headquarters to Houston, TX. After Eastern Airlines bankruptcy filing, the routes were divided between the Eastern Airlines and Continental Airlines. Two months after Eastern stopped flying in January 1991, Bar Harbor ceased flying as Eastern Express. Continental Express gave up the original Bar Harbor route to Colgan Air, consolidating East coast operations at Newark.
